Bicester Hotel and Spa in Chesterton, have a high-end, sports performance gym and not only that but a 200m Swimming Lake, outdoor Grass Running Circuit and assault course. Teen reporter Jess and her Mum checked out the assault course and open air swimming lake on Saturday and have given their reviews. Their entry was gifted but as with all reviews on Red Kite Days, we only publish recommendations on places that get a genuine thumbs up.
The assault course was challenging but fun. There were lots of different obstacles, some easier, like balance beams and tunnels, and some harder, such as a wall you had to climb up and over.
My favourite part was where you had to swing on a rope over water. You can have multiple goes, time yourself, or race against another person. Children under 12 aren’t allowed on it so I would recommend it for sporty teenagers and adults.
The lake is a welcome addition to local open water swimming facilities. The changing rooms were clean with 3 showers, lockers and a toilet. There was not a huge amount of space for changing so would recommend coming ready changed if possible. The lake was clean and it was clear that safety of swimmers is important with a lifeguard, compulsory tow floats and several exit points.
Swimming is in 400m laps so is suited to those who want to swim continuously. Keen and hardy open water swimmers will be pleased to hear the lake will continue to open during the autumn and winter!
The café was not open on the day we visited but we were still able to buy drinks at reception. The outside terrace looks like a nice spot to sit on a sunny day. There was plenty of parking. We think that an adventure playground would be a great addition so that younger siblings have some entertainment on the site.
