Braywick Park and Nature Reserve

With lockdown we’ve been trying to find different local places to take a walk and we were really lucky to have beautiful blue skies while exploring the parkland that Braywick Park and Nature Reserve in Maidenhead had to offer.

Situated just off the Braywick Road, it is the largest public open space in Maidenhead, covering 40 hectares, 22 of this being sports ground. Its home to a number of wildlife which can be spotted in all seasons. A mixture of wooded areas and paved walking routes, which makes it a great place to explore on foot, scooter or bike. Some areas are buggy friendly if you stick to the paths and avoid the nature reserve fields. It’s also a popular place for dog walking.

There are plenty of different walking routes which the kids enjoyed exploring and discovered some impressive wooden sculptures. This was great as it encouraged them to walk further to spot the next. It was great to let them lead the way and have something to make the walk a bit different.

We continued to walk to the Braywick Sports Ground (towards the town centre) which features caged artificial pitches, an athletics running track that’s open to the public, a climbing wall, outdoor gym equipment, a dinosaur themed mini golf Maidenhead Mini-Golf | Crazy Golf where the fun begins in Berkshire.

There’s also a playpark aimed at children over the age of 9yrs. This area wasn’t as much fun for toddlers and more aimed at older children. My 9yr old loved it!

School Holidays

The Braywick Nature Centre which is a building located by the car park on Hibbert Road, is a family friendly centre run by Rangers. It is popular with school trips and often has many events throughout the year to entertain children and get them closer to nature. Activities include pond dipping, den building and minibeast safari. The pond dipping was certainly memorable discovering a water snake! This is definitely one to keep an eye on once lockdown lifts.
