Wildlife Discovery Day at Chiltern Open Air Museum

Step into nature and explore Chiltern Open Air Museum’s beautiful 45-acre site in the heart of the Chilterns. Packed with family-friendly activities this is your chance to get hands-on with the natural world and learn about the incredible wildlife that lives all around us.
Join Wild Amersham and delve into the colourful world of wildflowers and the buzzing pollinators that depend on them. Take a guided walk through the vibrant chalk downland meadow. Discover rare species and habitats. Walks start at 11:30am and 3pm.
Join the Bucks Amphibian and Reptile Group for some pond dipping and meet the fascinating creatures that live beneath the surface. Sessions at 10:30am and 1pm.
Explore the sounds of the wild and learn to recognise some of the many birds that live on the museum site by their unique calls. Join the Field Studies Centre for an exciting bug hunt. Discover beetles, butterflies, and other tiny creatures hidden in the site’s wild spaces.
Join the Buckinghamshire Mammal Group and learn to track and identify local wildlife from the signs they leave behind. Get a close-up look at our buzzing companions with the BBOWT and Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
Create your own woodland-inspired masterpiece with the Watford Recycling Arts Project. Use natural and recycled materials to make a beautiful nature crown to take home! Follow the magical trail through the woodlands and spot the hand-crafted willow sculptures of birds and animals who make this space their home.
