Berkshire Snowdrop Walk at Welford Park

Welford Park snowdrops, Berkshire snowdrop walk

The ultimate place to go for a snowdrop walk in Berkshire has to be Welford Park.  Situated North West of Newbury and previously a location for the filming of the Great British Bake Off, they open their grounds each year to the public in from February to early March.

There’s a series of pathways that lead you from the entrance along a crystal clear river with a main pathway which is marked on a map and accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The most impressive area is a circular route which takes you around the beech woodland where a thick carpet of snowdrops has the wow factor.  My iphone camera really couldn’t do it justice.

It would be a wonderful place to bring along a digital SLR to practise your photography skills.

There’s an accessible pathway that loops around with a simple fence to protect the snowdrops. Welford Park have over 150 cultivars of Galanthus snowdrops spread around the gardens.

Not usually open to the public, this event is perfect for exploring the wider grounds and garden at Welford Park too.  There are numerous little bridges over the river, winding pathways to explore and even a bamboo tunnel to walk through.

During the snowdrop walk event at Welford Park they have light meals and refreshments available in a covered marquee next to the impressive Queen Anne manor house.  There’s also a shepherd’s hut selling hot drinks on the lawns with table and chairs dotted around.

It’s worth taking the time to explore beyond the snowdrops.  We loved the sculptures, in particular the huge giraffes.

Situated next to the Welford Park manor house is gorgeous flint church which is open to the public to visit too.
