Archaeology Festival of Discovery 2024
17 February @ 9:30 am - 18 February @ 5:30 pm
FreeThe Festival of Discovery sees the archaeologists behind the Roman and Iron Age digs at Earth Trust sharing their fascinating finds in a pop-up museum plus a series of specialist talks and unique hands-on workshops.
When archaeologists from DigVentures began excavating at Earth Trust, it led to the discovery of a previously unknown Roman villa and a vast Iron Age settlement. From the contents of a prehistoric pantry to the arrival of the first pet dogs in Britain, the results have provided a glimpse into these ancient lives.
Experience an unprecedented insight into the archaeological discoveries at Earth Trust, and what they can tell us about the people who once inhabited this part of Oxfordshire, with daily talks from expert speakers and practical workshops, plus a free to visit pop-up museum.
You will be able to see artefacts from the dig, hear first-hand from the experts about what they can reveal, and learn how techniques like ancient DNA, isotopes, and careful examination of clues etched into bones can illuminate the long-lost details of daily life.
