Knight School sessions last around one hour, and once you’ve been trained, you will be knighted and presented with your own sword to take home!

@redkitedays ad 🛡️♞Back to School ….. Knight School! I took my knight in training down to Oxford Castle & Prison this afternoon for an hour’s intensive training from a castle knight. The @OxfordCastle&Prison castle courtyard makes a stunning backdrop & luckily they had us positioned in the shade. The session was led by a knight in full chain mail costume and she had a pretty mighty sword. 🏹The training starts with archery and plenty of goes to hone your skills. Next it was time for jousting with a hobby horse and lance. 🐎 I love the creativity that Oxford Castle put into creating these school holiday events. The challenge was to hit the shield and watch out for ‘Bob’ on the other side who could swing round and get you. Even after this part, my son kept being drawn back to have another go. 🤺Sword skills are a must for all brave knights – attacking and defending. The children learnt three moves and then took turns to advance upon the target dummies while dodging soft balls being thrown at them. Shields at the ready and swords out, they move in for the attack. One little girl was so sweet giving gentle nudges with the sword. My son has two big brothers and this seemed to unleash a full force attack from him! You get to bring your sword home with you and my answer to ‘can I sharpen it when we get back’ was a definite no! 📜 After completing his training my son knelt and was knighted before receiving his official certificate. Knight School is on until 30th August. I also spotted when I was there that they have birds of prey handling sessions coming up on 31st August 🦅 #knightschool #oxfordcastle #thingstodoinoxford #oxfordmums #oxfordevents #knightintraining #swordfighting #archery #jousting #daysoutwithkidsoxford #visitoxford #discoveroxford ♬ Wrath of God – Lone Monk Orchestra & Boca Octavian
