Penn Meadow Farm Camping

Last weekend we had a fabulous time glamping at Penn Meadow Farm Pop up campsite!

We stayed in one of their large furnished bell tents which consisted of two very comfortable furnished double beds (one on a built up pallet bed for us and one lower to the ground which was perfect for the kids!).

Close by to our tent was a small kitchenette with a two ring gas hob, pans, crockery, glassware, hot water bottles and lots of other essentials to make your stay more comfortable! There were also two portable toilet and a shower cubicle with hot running water.

I would say this sits at the more basic end of glamping but it honestly does have everything you need. The owners are planning to update the toilet, kitchen and shower facilities so there is an exciting future for this site!

The site is set on a family run farm and there is so much to keep you occupied for the weekend. We were so lucky to be given a tour of the family farm by Frankie the Farmer when we arrived on Friday afternoon. We got to meet the pigs and give them a stroke, feed the ducks and chickens and saw some of the amazing carpentry projects Frankie is working on.

Keep your eyes peeled for them offering glamping stays in the front of an old airplane in the future!!!! We also went for walks in the woods and found their field of sheep and alpacas and saw lots of lambs which we were able to get very close to.

On Friday we walked 5 minutes through the fields for dinner at the oldest freehouse in England – The Royal Standard of England. This is also where Hot Fuzz and parts of Afterlife were filmed! Granted there wasn’t much on the menu for kids, but they enjoyed sharing a large bowl of chips and we would all highly recommend the cheese puffs to start.

The setting for glamping is beautiful, it’s a large open field with beautiful views in every direction. There was a lovely atmosphere on site but you weren’t so close to other campers that you didn’t feel you had your own space and privacy.

Frankie comes round early evening with fire wood and the boys loved making a fire and we all loved having some toasted marshmallows. Each tent comes with outside seating and we had a picnic table too. We spent lots of time sat watching the many Red Kites flying over and there were lots of airplanes flying over too which the boys loved!

In addition the farm has 3 dogs (one is a super cute puppy) and one of the dogs, Freckles and Freddie became firm friends. I’ve never seen Freddie bond with a dog so quickly and he was so sad to say bye on Sunday! He spent hours across the weekend throwing our ball or frisbee for the dogs. Your own dogs are welcome to stay on site too!

When you’re camping at Penn Meadow Farm and taking in the beautiful scenery you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. However, you are just a 5 minute drive from town and local amenities. We dashed to tesco for fresh milk and we drove into Amersham on Saturday afternoon to take the boys swimming. There is plenty to do around here and we could have stayed for days!

If you’re looking for a somewhere relatively local to camp, with beautiful scenery and lots to do outside with your children, I would highly recommend Penn Meadow Farm
