Works to transform Portman Road children’s playpark and ball court in Reading with have recently been completed (Jan 2022).
Following a public consultation on four shortlisted designs, Option Four by HAGS UK won with 45% of the public vote to install brand new equipment.
The new mix of accessible equipment includes two inclusive multi-units and roundabout, a large basket swing, sensory activity panels for quieter play, a sensory path to navigate through the playground, brightly coloured floor graphics and upgraded seating.
Reading Council investment of £94k aims to provide a playpark that will suit the needs of children with a mix of ages and abilities.
The council also invested a further £37k to refurbish Portman Road’s multi-use games area. The courts have been re-surfaced with new markings for basketball and 5-a-side football.
Existing goal markings have been re-sprayed and two additional basketball hoops put up. The path accessing the games area has been improved and the courts cleared of any over-hanging vegetation.
