Whenever it’s raining I always think what can we do on a wet day?
Today we headed to Brooklyn Pottery in Shaw Heath, Stockport. It’s a quirky little pottery shop with a big personality!
John who runs it is very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about all things pottery!
There’s a great selection of pottery for you to choose from – we went for a very special lantern but there’s a huge choice. I loved seeing Mums get stuck in too, when we left there was a great butter dish in the making! John told us, however the most popular item to paint is a dog bowl…even for those who don’t have dogs they love it! We also saw a family with a 6mth old making memories taking hand and foot prints which looked beautiful all painted.
The studio has 2 floors and a good selection of small and large tables, paint pots and paints. Aprons are provided but the good news is they use washable paint! A small selection of hot and cold drinks and a few snacks (mainly sweets and biscuits) are also available to buy. High hairs, baby changing and toilets are all available too!
You can book a table online, prices for pottery range from £10 onwards and there’s a £3 studio charge per painter to cover the cost of the glaze, paints and firing (April 2024).
Once you’ve painted your pottery it’s carefully stored ready to be glazed and fired and it then takes 7-10 days before you can collect it. Pre payment is required.
Parking is a bit tricky – we found a local side street but there are a few spaces available behind the shop.
The best thing about pottery painting is there really is no age range, from toddlers to teens it’s the perfect way to spent an afternoon getting creative. We can’t wait to return to collect our pottery – and maybe next time I’ll have a go at painting something too!
